Europa League - 2010

Sporting Fingal have today (Monday) been handed a draw against CS Marítimo of Portugal in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

It has been confirmed that the first leg will take place in Madeira on 15th July at 7.45pm, with the return leg to take place in Dalymount Park on 22nd July (KO to be determined).

The club are currently working on package deals for supporters with a number of operators, and all information will be available at the Supporters' Meeting tomorrow evening, though all supporters who wish to book their own arrangements, are free to do so.

CS Marítimo, from Madeira, finished fifth in last season’s Portuguese top-flight.

Sporting Fingal manager Liam Buckley said: “We’re delighted to be pitted against CS Marítimo.

“They play in a league which is renowned for its top standard of football and, given the number of Brazilians in their squad, they’re bound to be technically gifted.

“That said, we’ve waited a long time since winning the FAI Ford Cup last November to participate in European competition and we’ll approach this tie with the aim of winning it and securing a place in the third round.

“Our squad were thrilled when they heard the draw and are excited about the prospect of testing themselves against top-calibre opposition.

“We’ve had a decent campaign so far, keeping in contention at the top of the Premier Division in our first season since promotion, and this brings us to a new level in our short history.”

He concluded: “We’re satisfied from a travel perspective, too, as the draw could have been a lot less kind to us.”
