Record victory for Sporting

Saturday, March 28, 2009 By John Fallon @ 9:21 AM :: Match Reports

Kildare County 0-8 Sporting Fingal

Sporting Fingal recorded their first away victory of the campaign in emphatic fashion as they steamrolled past Kildare County at Station Road.

Eamon Zayed, Shaun Williams and Conan Byrne all bagged two goals each apiece as Fingal inflicted Kildare County's heaviest ever defeat at Station Road.

After recording their first win of the season against Wexford Youths last week, a rampant Sporting brushed aside the inexperienced Kildare team and really it could have been more.

Eamon Zayed could have opened the scoring inside the opening 60 seconds but he failed to convert from six yards out.

However he didn't get too many more things wrong on a night when he simply tormented a Kildare defence containing two centre halves starting their first League of Ireland game.

It didn't take long for the former Bray Wanderers and Drogheda Utd man to find his scoring boots though and he opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a cracking half-volley from just inside the Kildare penalty area.

Conan Byrne doubled their lead after 34 minutes when he capitalised on a mistake by Rory Browne after Sporting had broken quickly following a Kildare attack.

Robbie Doyle then made it three before the half-time break from the penalty spot after Alan Thorpe had bundled Conan Byrne over inside the box.

Zayed netted his second early in the second half with a delightful curling effort from the edge of the box.

It was Shaun Williams' turn to get in on the act next and he hit a brace inside three minutes midway through the second half.

Byrne added Sporting's seventh with the goal of the night, a stunning 20-yard free kick in the 78th minute.

Ross Gaynor finally put Kildare out of their misery and ended the rout with a simple tap in eight minutes from time, when Zayed took advantage of a woeful clearance from Colin Cassidy before setting up the substitute.
