All square at RSC

Saturday, August 29, 2009 By John Fallon @ 11:48 PM :: Match Reports

Waterford United 0-0 Sporting Fingal.

Chances were wasted by both sides as Waterford United and Sporting Fingal played out a scoreless draw at the RSC. Fingal remain third in the table, with the Blues one place behind by virtue of goal difference.

Waterford missed the best chances as these promotion chasers had to settle for a scoreless draw at the RSC.

Sporting had an opportunity to take the lead as early as the second minute when ex-Blues' winger Alan Kirby crossed for Gary O’Neill who planted his header wide.

Waterford then blew two good openings in the second half.

The first came within a minute of the restart when Joe Mulcahy ballooned over the bar from Paul Walsh’s cross.

Mulcahy then took the wrong option on 86 minutes when he shot over rather than passing to the unmarked Willy John Kiely.

Waterford United: Michael Devine; Alan Carey, Kevin Murray, Graham Cummins, Seamus Long; Paul Walsh, Stephen Grant, John Kearney, Vinny Sullivan (Dave Warren 67), Joe Mulcahy; Willie John Kiely.

Sporting Fingal: Darren Quigley, Brian Gannon, Lorcan Fitzgerald, Shaun Williams, Philip Byrne, Stephen Paisley, Conan Byrne, Robert Bayly (Robbie Doyle 79), Gary O’Neill (Eamon Zayed 79), Alan Kirby, Shane McFaul.

Referee: Graham Kelly (Cork).
