The University of Limerick Arena was the scene of the first National Powerchair Finals. Seven teams from across the country competed in this very successful event. The many spectators who made the journey to Limerick were not disappointed with the quality of Football on show.
Sporting Fingal opened up their competition with a bravely contested 3-0 loss to eventual winners The Midlands. Next up for Sporting Fingal was a tough game against Kildare which Sporting won 1-0.
Having finished 2nd in the group Sporting Fingal were down to play Rebel Kingdom who are a club made up of players from Cork and Kerry. This was a fiercely contested game and was still locked at 1-1 heading into the dying minutes. Penalties looked a dead certainty until Rebel Kingdom found a gap in the Sporting Fingal defence and capitalised to win the game 2-1.
The third/fourth place playoff was an all Dublin affair with Sporting Fingal playing Dun Laoghaire- Rathdown. Like all of Sporting Fingals previous games this one was finely balanced with Sporting Fingal taking the game 2-1. This placed them 3rd in the First National Powerchair Championships.
