Conan is from Swords in North Dublin and spent time with Rivervalley Rangers, Home Farm and Swords Rovers before combining his studies with football at UCD.

He made progress towards the first-team at Belfield by guiding the Students’ Under-21 team secure the National title in 2005, the same year he scored in the final of the eircom League Cup against Derry City.

He concluded his spell with UCD by winning the player of the year accolade for 2007 and received the same honour for Fingal twelve months later on the back of his stunning first season at the club.
