2008 was the first year for the new Dr. Tony O’Neill League of Ireland Under-20 League, with 26 clubs competing in four regionalised groups running until January 2009.
The top two teams from each regionalised group qualified for the Quarter Finals, with the remainder of the competition being decided on an open draw knock-out basis.
According to Fran Gavin, Director of the League of Ireland, the Under-20 league is another important building block for the league and domestic football in general.
Gavin said: “One of our primary objectives is to improve both player and club pathway into the League of Ireland.
“The Under-20 league, as well as the A Championship, has a very important role to play in terms of bringing top quality young players through into the senior League of Ireland set-up.
“The A Championship has been very successful and the Under-20 league is another important part of that process.”
More information on Sporting Fingal’s fixtures will be published on the when these are finalised.
