League Of Ireland First Division

Sporting Fingal Football Club are competing in the League of Ireland First Division for the second year after being founded in 2007.

Former Irish International player, Liam Buckley, is the Director of Football with Sporting Fingal FC and manager of the first team.

The team play at Morton Stadium in Santry and attracted over 1,200 spectators to their first-ever home game against Athlone Town in March 2008.

Buckley strengthened his squad for 2009 squad with the signing of several players with Premier Division experience, notably Eamon Zayed, Gary O’Neill and Stephen Paisley.

A Championship team

The A Championship has been up and running for about three weeks now and to date we have played three games with two wins and one defeat.

The A Championship is split into two groups of nine; we participate in Group 2 along with Tralee Dynamos, St. Patrick’s, Cobh Ramblers, Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers, Bray Wanderers, FC Carlow and Cork City.

Sporting Fingal Under-20 team

Sporting Fingal will be entering a team into the League of Ireland Under-20 league, due to kick-off in the summer of 2009.  According to Fran Gavin, Director of the League of Ireland, the Under-20 league is another important building block for the league and domestic football in general.

Kevin Kilbane launches Sporting Fingal FC’s Special Olympics Team

The Sporting Fingal FC’s Special Olympics Team was launched in February 2009 and operates in the National Special Olympics Football League.  Irish International Kevin Kilbane endorsed the establishment of the Sporting Fingal FC Special Olympics Team as news of the launch emerged.

SPORTING FINGAL EMBRACE FUTSAL

The FAI Futsal League of Ireland competition was created in 2007, when eight clubs competed in the inaugural tournament which was eventually won by Shamrock Rovers. In 2009 the Futsal league has grown, with 15 clubs now taking part in four Futsal centres across the country.
